Passion06- Everything Glorious!

I am a "blogger slacker." This past January I got to experience the Passion Movement full force and I didn't even post pictures! Ack! so, this week they released their 2006 Passion CD, so in honor of that, I am trying to "redeem" myself slightly and let you take a little glimps of all the action behind the album. What an amazing time to glorify the name of our Lord with 18,000+ other young adults down in the heart of music-- Nashville, TN. It was a unique experience... one that I soon won't forget. So let's take a little walk down "Passion06 Lane" ;-)

Before and after the main sessions we would bust out of the main autorium and go to breakout groups located all over Nashville. This was certainly a site to see, thousands of us flowing all over the city... I felt like the children of Israel!
Our break-out group meet in this huge building half way across town that looked like the supreme court or something!
In the afternoons we had a bit of free-time... during which we enjoyed "exploring" downtown Nashville and all of it's unique charm.
We even managed to find Michael W. Smith's Rockettown... a place where young people can just "chill"-- drink coffee, play pool, sit on over stuffed chairs and just talk about life... they even had a computerlab where you could check your email, or create artwork...
...or skate. It was an amazing place... I wish we had one of these around here... I know where I would be hanging out!!
Every night they had an optional "late-night" event after the last main session and break-out. The first night we went to the Shane & Shane concert(they are amazing by the way) and the second evening we hit up the Shawn McDonald concert. He was good too (although I was sooo tired by that night I could hardly keep my eyes open!)
The final night they had a late-night for everyone in the main arena. We were all told to leave our breakout session without talking and file down to the arena. It was really cool to see the sea of people, but not hear a sound but the thumping of feet on pavement as we walked. When we entered the arena it was completely dark.. with the exeption of the stage-- which was filled with hundreds of candles. Wow, what a site. What followed was an hour or so of emotional worship, a deep swell of thanksgiving, a time of personal reflection & repentance. And a time to just focus on the cross.....

During the conference there was a room with many different activities. One of those activities included a "graffiti" wall where people could sign and write things-- to God, about God, praise, thanksgiving, adoration... during the last few moments of the last session, they put all the panels of the graffiti wall together to form a HUGE cube around the stage and the musicians... proclaiming how GLORIOUS our God is. It was amazing.

What an amazing event. All for God's glory.

NCCA what?!

I have to share something funny with you. well, at least from my standpoint it's funny. At work we did an informal NCCA tournament bracket for March Madness. People were all into it, even though it wasn't in our case for money or whatever-- more office "bragging rights." Anyway, I got roped into doing it. Last year I had NO idea what I was doing and only ended up picking for the first round. Needless to say, I pretty much lost. ha. This year I still had no idea what I was doing (how often do I ever watch college bb?! um, pretty much never.. unless it's with friends, and even then... *sigh*)

I didn't really have a "strategy" for my pics.... some of them were based on rank numbers, some of them based on the colors of their team mascot... some of them were even based on where they were located! (I have to say I gave extra props to teams from Indiana or Washington state.. or anywhere cool that I had "vacationed") one or two of them were just based on their team names. Hey- I was just happy that this time I managed to pick out teams all the way throughout the tournament this year! ;-) And as far as my little screen name... I figured who doesn't like a good hotdog at a sporting event?! lol.

I guess everyone who actually KNEW what was going on this year was dissapointed... I heard somewhere that on espn.com they had 1.5 million people sign up for their fantasy games and only FOUR people picked the correct final 4. I wasn't sad at all. I think it was maybe because I had no expectations. I'm more excited that out of all the people at work I managed to rank number 2. Only one point away from grabbing the top rank away from the guy who's life seems to be college sports. It totally makes me smile. A girl with a flowered car... who likes art, randomeness and a little fun.

Coldplay

I think I've FINALLY recovered from my Coldplay excitement. Well, at least enough to write about it anyway. ;-)
Two word review... SIMPLY AMAZING!!

The entire evening was like some kind of wild dream. Seriously, it didn't really feel like it was actually happening until we were sitting in the United Center... Level 300-- eagle-eye view baby. ;-) The crowd was electric. So what if the opening guy sucked (it was the lead singer from the band The Verve-- of "Bittersweet Symphony" fame... I think he was seriously either high or drunk... nothing that came out of his mouth seemed to make sense... well, except for the explicatives!), so what if our seats were at the top of the stadium (you get the WHOLE picture that way), so what if the break between the two bands was the longest 30-45min EVER, so what that half the crowd probably won't even remember most of the concert because they were drunk off their butts... it was COLDPLAY!!

Out of all the concerts I have been to in my life, I would have to say this was one of the best ever-- and that is saying a lot considering I've probably been to over 30 concerts... Sure, I knew the words to ALL the songs that they did (I'm that much of a coldplay dork) but I think even if I wouldn't... it still would have been an amazing show.

So... what makes an outstanding concert? One that outshines the rest and really sticks with you? Here are some of my own personal "requirements" and how this concert really meet and surpassed the mark.
* Sound quality- I would say it was pretty decent. Especially considering we were sitting way above most of the main speakers. Chris Martin has such an outstanding voice, even live. I think that is when you KNOW a band is good... when their stuff sounds great in a studio, but just as great or better live.

* Lighting- every song was different. From a crazy laser show during "Clocks", to a completely black stage with single spotlight on Chris' face... very dynamic. During Politik they also used some dramatic spotlight effects. I also really liked how in two of the songs they made good use of the LED "advertising rings" that run around the two levels of the United Center... one song they had all these stars like you were in space... and then for "Speed of Sound" they had the X&Y logo just continuously scrolling all over the place. During "Swallowed by the Sea" it looked like they had taken pages from Chris' journal and inverted them to make all the letters white.. .then they projected that onto the big screen behind them as well as through spotlights all over the area. Very cool.

* Venue- ok, so the United Center is pretty massive. Sometimes I really have a hard time focusing on the performers if the space they are occupying is too large, but for this concert I was so sucked in the space didn't seem to matter. Actually, it put me more at awe then anything to see a completely sold out audience-- a gigantic sea of people all there... totally into the music. Sure, I'm still one for smaller more personal venues, but for a band as big as this you know that's never going to happen, so you just deal with it and concentrate on more important things

* Enthusiasm of the performers- Completely off the charts here! You can tell these guys LOVE to preform, and have so much fun doing it together. Chris was all over the stage-- jumping, twirling around, laying down with the guitarist on the ground, practically falling off the stage at times... during the second to last song "in My Place" he completely ran from the stage all the way to the back of the arena just to sing with the "back row" people. That guy is in shape! wowzers

* Crowd participation- imagine hearing 15-20,000 (im not sure of the exact number but know it was completely sold out) fan sing along at the top of their lungs. Unreal.

* Song selection- From the heart pounding ones like "Clocks" & "Speed of Sound" to the real and honest, almost haunting sounds of "what if", to jonny cash's "till kingdom come" and "ring of fire" this set was jam packed with lots of sweet morsels... nice variety.

Definitely got an "A" grade from me.
Personal highlight: during "Yellow" huge yellow balloons fell from the middle of the arena. (they were bigger than me I think) It was so much fun to see them bouncing around on the audience.... and then after bouncing a few times... BAAAAMM! They exploded in a shower of gold glitter! AAAH! how much fun is that?!

Ok. Long enough rant for now... but a show this good deserved a good long post.

And you thought "spinners" were tacky...

Ok. Many of you know that I work at a performance auto specialist place... well, recently we just started doing ads for DUB and Rides magazine. That being said, it makes me wonder how long it will be before we start selling these rims?! ;p I guess only time will tell...

i got a new hat. it makes me happy. i bought it tonight at sam goody. sadly- it won't be open in our mall much longer. *tear* not that i ever shopped there, but still. it makes me sad to see things go. like marshall fields. i drove past there tonight and they already took the signage off the side of the mall. *another tear* but I digress. this hat. was 60% off. so. me being me-- i just couldn't resist. i bought it. the cashier boys were totally flirting with me. it made me laugh. it's been awhile.

i then went to wally-world to look for some hot-pink lace for a costume im going to try and make (more about that later perhaps.) no lace. but i did wear my hat. lots of people stared. some smiled. some just stared some more. whatever. it made me smile. this hat is almost so ugly it's cute. it's fun doing little psychological "tests" on people, even if it's just for your own amusement. ha.

i drove home. i was at a stoplight and the car next to me honked at me. i don't know if it was the car or the hat. maybe both. *shrug* i love just being me. it's fun-- well, most days. i just love making other smile- even if it's just for a moment at a stoplight. speaking of stoplights.... the other night i was at one... and i look over and there was a police dude next to me... he had a laptop computer next to him on the dashboard...and although im not 100% sure, i think he was looking at someones xanga!! um, weird.

The "Jen" Update

so. as many of you noticed I took a week hiatus from the bloggisphere for most of the week. I missed you all, I really did, but I needed a break. It's not like I didn't want to post, because I had numerous interesting things happen this week, it's just that I was tired of the whole computer thing. This happens to me frequently because of the nature of my job. *sigh* And although I love the computer and my job where I am constantly creating, sometimes just taking the time to sit and get my thoughts out is daunting to me. I think I need to buy myself one of those dictating machines. ;-) So... here is a random list of things that I just wanted to share with you...

On Wednesday night my wonderful place of employment had a Bridgestone "party"/meeting... and they always have some race-car dude on-site to do autographs and such. Well, I never know any of these guys, but it is still fun anyway. This years driver was Tony Kanaan-- and he is apart of a team sponsored by 7-Eleven. He is some guy I think from Brazil. Pretty cool.
The word on the street is that he sorta looks like a Ven Disel-- that is shorter with a slightly bigger nose. Yeah, since I don't know a lick about racing all I could ask him was--"So, do you get a lot of free slushies & Big Gulps?!" HA! Yeah... dork-o-rama. But seriously, he laughed and said- yes! Guess SOMEBODY is taking a lot of extra pitstops there. (note: so, I actually found a picture with him and a big Gulp... sweet)

Craig Gross from xxxchurch is speaking in church next week and I am sooo pumped!! If you haven't already, make sure to check out their site, blog and podcast. They are both GREAT. I was doubly excited this week because when I went to the site I noticed that they were having a "spring cleaning" or something sale on their t-shirts so all of them (well, what's left anyway) are only SIX dollars!! seriously folks, that is an awesome dealio. So yeah, I bought a few... one with their site plastered on it in fun pink letters... and another one--one of my favs--that says "NoHo".. basically proclaiming to the world that I'm not going to be a hoochie. ;-) I was kinda sad though, because I really wanted a "Jesus loves Pornstars" t-shirt, but they were all out of decent sizes :-( oh well.

In other "Jen" news... this weekend is my sisters 21 birthday! woohoo!! I think I am going to take her out tomorrow night for dinner or something fun, and then we might go out and play pool or darts or something just to celebrate her 21st. I'm trying to think of something creative to do, so if you have any suggestions, please feel free to share!!

Um, and for those of you living in the area, get over to LS Ayres for some AMAZING sales through saturday! SERIOUSLY!! A lot of their clearance is 80% off AND buy one get one free!!! yeah, I was just a little excited last night when I got some hot jewelry for only $3.39 (both of them together were originally $65!) Work is crazy right about now. I have stack-loads of projects in my inbox with no end in site. Actually, we are currently in the process of hiring another designer, so hopefully that will help things a bit. Perhaps that is another reason for my lack of blogging this week-- I get home and the LAST thing I want to do is look at the computer again... and usually I have time to blog at work on my break but not so much this week!!! OHHHH... that and they have been cracking down on us more for doing tooooooo much "extracurricular" stuff at work, so I am more cautious now... even for the fact that I need to keep being a good witness to my fellow employees.

Speaking of work... gotta get back to it, so this is going to wrap up the "Jen Update" for the week.

Coldplay Dork.

Yes.. I'm officially a dork. This time it is for the love of music. In exactly two weeks from thursday I will be going to see Coldplay in concert at the United Center in Chicago. I am EXCITED to say the least... here's where the nerd part comes in... so a friend of mine that is also going to the concert emailed me a playlist of what they've been doing at their other shows. I popped into itunes and made a playlist of the entire concert. yeah. that is just dorky.

Ok, so maybe IM the only one who thinks this is halarious... yeah, I'm just that Mac/art "geek".... so sue me.

xxxchurch dude

So.. last night I went to hear Craig Gross from xxxchruch speak on purity. It was good-- a lot of the points he brought up reminded me a lot of what Jeanna had posted on her blog the other day (which btw, I really should borrow that CD sometime if it's ok with you Jeanna) It never ceases to amaze me how many people daily struggle with pornography, and how many stories there are out there just waiting to be told... or tightly hidden away, hoping never to be found out...

I really appreciate what Craig and Mike are doing in the lives of hurting people all over the place. If you've never checked out their site I would say go for it (Just make sure you are not at work.. cause otherwise you could get some pretty wicked stares!) Also, they have a pretty cool podcast that comes out weekly. (yes.. I am addicted to podcasts!!)

Craig is schedules to speak at GCC March 25 & 26 and it is going to be SWEET. A much different presentation than he gave last night.. It should be really great. I'm hoping they show their new film "Missionary Positions" but I guess we will have to wait and see. Inside Scoop Right Here: I got to talk to Craig after the event last night and he mentioned that HBO might be coming with him when he speaks at GCC! I guess they are doing some sort of documentary about the guys and their ministry & all the Porn Sundays they do across the country... so that would be sweet!

Help! My monitor is eating me!!

This week I got a "treat" at work... a cinematic (= REALLY STINKING HUGE) monitor for my mac... ahh.. so pretty. I need one of these for my room... just so I can watch DVD's on it or something... seriously.. it's bigger than my tv!! ha!

I have thought about trying to find a site with a daily dose of "My Upmost for His Highest" but I wanted to see if there were any other good ones out there that you my friends know about??

My Points Rant

Ok... so, I am an avid technology girl. I work in the web design world and create artistic "havioc" on many. That being said.. I HATE spam, pop-ups, ads with sounds that you don't ask for, and banner ads that try to take over your screen. So... don't worry, I don't associate myself with any of those.

Anyway, this post is just to brag a little big about this cool program I have been involved in for a few years called My Points. For those of you who have no idea what it is, it is a company where just by shopping online, reading email, playing games and taking surveys you can earn rewards like gift cards, airline miles and vacations. Over the past 3 years I've gotten about $75 in gift cards to Barnes and Nobel, and a few gift cards to Target.

If you are an online shopper this program rocks because for participating stores you get so many points for every dollar you spend. Now, even if you AREN'T a big online shopper, you STILL get 5 points for every email you "read" and visit the participating site. That is how I have gotten most of my points.

Now.. If you don't like getting random email, well, this program may not be for you... BUT if you enjoy free stuff (and really, who doesn't) you may want to give it a try!

Random Tuesday

Today totally surpassed yesterday, not like anything grand happened to make note of-- but it wasn't a Monday, and life wasn't so aggravating.

That being said... here are just some random things from today...

• A band I really like-- The Juliana Theory-- is calling it quits.

• My favorite operating system has anticipated that hackers would try to crack it-- so the programmers have embedded a warning deep in the software — in the form of a poem. This totally sounds like something I would do ;-) For those of you who are to lazy to read the article, here is the poem.

"Your karma check for today: There once was a user that whined/his existing OS was so blind/he'd do better to pirate/an OS that ran great/but found his hardware declined./Please don't steal Mac OS!/Really, that's way uncool./(C) Apple Computer, Inc."

Extremes

Ok.. so I'm "stealing" someone elses blog post from a few months ago, but it really mirrors what I've been thinking-- especially with a site Stephen pointed out yesterday, so I figured I would share it with you all...
It's from the blog of "The Crooked Saint" (he seems to have dropped off blogging for the past few months.. maybe because of his recent decision to go to seminary, but I can't really speculate because I just stumbled apon his blog today) I just love the blogging world. It can be both frusterating, and invigurating-- make us angry, and open our minds... and you can just meet all sorts of people.
ok.. nough said.. here's the post... seriously, let me know what you think about it....

Cussing:
One camp thinks no truly saved person will cuss. If someone cusses, they are not a Chrstian
The other camp thinks dropping F-bombs and cussing in general doesn't reflect any spiritual deficiency.

Rock Music:
One camp thinks the devil created the drum and rock music as a form of music is un-redeemable
The other camp rocks and rolls all night and parties every day.

Scripture:
One camp: Inerrant and easy to understand. There is a prescription for everything.
The other camp: Scripture as allegory and useful, but not the final authority

Emergent Church:
One camp: Lucifer's children
The other camp: The only way to reach the world.

I think people grossly underestimate God. To me, it's reasonable to accept the inerrancy of Scripture and also throw up my hands at times and say "I don't know how to read this passage."
I think we should thoughtfully choose our words, but I can't in good conscience say someone who uses the "S" word is incapable of a relationship with Christ.

I think we should always be thinking of ways to reach the world for Christ...but I can't throw out thousands of years of Church tradition...nor can I let that tradition keep me from reaching the lost.

And rock music: Oh my, I would be a shell of a person without it.

I won't point you to any websites. I'm finding myself spending way too much time debating things like this with people who do not have ears to hear. I wouldn't want anyone reading this to fall prey to the time-robbers.

I know this for sure (and I'm stealing this line) There is a God. I am not Him. Thanks be to God for grace through Christ because there's no way I'll know everything in this life."

In tunes news... the No. 1 album of the week is Jack JohnsonÂ’s soundtrack to the “Curious George” movie. People are acting all suprised or something, but I say, dude, it's Jack Johnson.. why are you suprised?! That guy, in my personal opinion, rocks!

Ok.. so this site is just plan goofy... and for a "geek" like me it just makes me smile. For those of you living in the "dark" ages USB drives are a bit like the "floppy disks" of old... but you can save waaaaaaaaaaaay more than 1.34 MB of data on them. Actually, I just bought one that is a whole 1 GB. And yeah, it is only about the size of a tube of chapstick! So check it out. My personal favs are the thumb drive and the barbie one! :)
